The web platform is to become a central reference point for high quality information and networking among European professionals working with sustainable consumption, especially in the fields of food, mobility and housing. It provides a space for incubating and nurturing knowledge to be shared among researchers and policy-makers through private domain, whereas general information and scientific results are disseminated in the public domain. In addition, the platform facilitates a transparent, mutually comprehensible, and effective interaction (dialogue) between scientists and policy-makers.
The Web Platform will respond to a demand from researchers and policy-makers alike in the field of sustainable consumption. At present, the field of sustainable consumption is characterised by a very heterogeneous and disaggregated network of professionals, which overflows most existing disciplinary, institutional, and professional boundaries. The fragmentation is particularly tangible in terms of common reference points for information. The Web Platform, therefore, aims to meet its goals by bringing three essential elements of internet use to the fore:
- sharing of information (hypertextuality)
- communication between participants (interactivity), and
- community-building (connectivity)
Essentially, the Web Platform attempts to take advantage of new web technologies to enhance existing and to-be-built offline communities, and at the same time, increase the scope of participation to a wider field.
The Web Platform will be further developed during the course of the project. Solutions for further operating the platform after the project has ceased will be developed as well.
